Patriotic Burlap Wreath

I made this wreath for a friend's birthday.  I bought all of my supplies at Hobby Lobby last week for under $15 dollars...some of it was on sale.  Anyway, I came home and watched some video tutorials on how to make your own burlap wreath, and voila!  I created this one.  I really like how it looks and might make one for myself soon.  Thanks for visiting!

A New Fall Wreath

So, a few things have been keeping me busy from crafting -- just to mention a few: canning, vacation, and sending the kids back to school and setting our new routine again. But last week I was able to put together this wreath, a slight variation of this on-line tutorial: http://www.vanessachristenson.com/2011/08/v-and-co-how-to-hydrangea-wreath.html. I didn't heed her advice and buy enough hydrangea stems, so I ran short and opted to just try something different. Therefore, see the burlap flowers? I decided I would try my hand at those since my dear friend made a wreath -- with burlap flowers -- for me last Christmas (see the center of my blog header? I love that wreath!). And I think burlap fits well with the look I was going for: Autumn-like and to coordinate with the bathroom I painted two years ago and have never really decorated since I couldn't decide what to do! The burlap flowers were easier to make than cotton or felt rosettes because the burlap is more bulky and quicker to wind up. I like the overall look of it in my bathroom (it's a 1/2 bath in our downstairs -- that's why the wreath is touching wall-to-wall!). The burlap I bought in the scrap bin at Jo Ann's a couple of years ago; the hydrangea stems and other stems I got at Hobby Lobby on sale last week; and the buttons and pearls I had in my stash. (PS - The tile "because nice matters!" was made by the same friend who made my wreath. She's so talented!)

Wreath Tutorial

Hi, everyone! I found a little time today to complete a wreath challenge at UCreate following this tutorial found at StoneGable: http://stonegable.blogspot.com/2010/03/tutorial-spring-wreath.html. It was the challenge issued by Kari at UCreate for her "Create With Me" series for March 2011. I really loved the Cherry Blossom wreath that was the sample, but I wanted to try to create a little different look with mine. And this is the first wreath I can ever remember creating with flower stems. (I typically like to use paper cut-outs for holiday-style wreaths.) Anyway, I went to Hobby Lobby this morning and found quite a few purple flower stems that I like, and they were all on sale. I already had the top wreath, and the bird (that can be removed and is not glued to the wreath) came from the Dollar Store. I had fun with this, but I think I would have liked to have more of the smaller stems to make it look fuller next time. Thanks for the challenge and I enjoyed participating, Kari!

Valentine's Day Tag Wreath

I made this wreath today during Jayna's nap and while watching my son play the Wii. (Carly was at school, of course.) Did you know that a mushroom monster can eat Mario's hat when it falls off?!? I didn't until today, and I used to play Super Mario Bros. on the Super Nintendo a lot while my honey was on his mission back in the 90's. Anyway,...back to the craft at hand. hehe I used my Cricut Expression to cut the hearts and circles, and then I hole-punched them with a Crop-a-dile. After that I purchased a grapevine wreath at Hobby Lobby (they are on sale there this week!), and took some scrap ribbons in coordinating colors and tied them to the dried vines. The paper is a My Mind's Eye paper stack also bought at Hobby Lobby. And the tile "Because nice matters" was made by my friend, Sarah, who is known as "hometypography" on Etsy and she also sells Scentsy candles. I hot glued the ribbon to the back of the tile she gifted me at one of her parties for bringing two friends along (score!) and hung it in the middle of the wreath. That's it!
